Pinups and Cars - Wayne and Lizzie

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Wedding

I've known Lizzie for a while in her burlesque persona and she is a beautiful person inside and out. When she and her fiance Wayne asked me to photograph their wedding I knew it was going to be something special.

As well as Lizzie's love of vintage, they both love cars (Volkswagons specifically), Wayne works for a tool company and they both adore metal music.
I had the ever wonderful pleasure of working with Ms Moo Makeup and Lucille's Locks, we make great team on wedding days!

The ceremony and and reception were at the beautiful Breadsall Priory. We were able to get on top of one of the roofs for the group photos and for the couple portraits we were driven around in a golf cart, it was so much fun! The areas surrounding the Priory were beautiful and perfect for photographing. Wayne and Lizzie were absolutely amazing, there were tears, laughter and they embodied such a romantic love that was a sheer pleasure to capture.

Assisting was from the ever wonderful and amusing John/Spike from Vapour Trail Photography.

Reader I married him - Victoria and Jonathan

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Wedding

Well this one has been a long time coming hasn't it?!

Part of the problem of why it takes me so long to blog about my wonderful clients is that I struggle so much to cut down the selection of images to share with you all. This wedding being absolutely no exception.

I absolutely loved Vic and Jonathan's wedding, the smiles and laughter seemed endless, the styling was GORGEOUS and the entire day just filled everyone's hearts with love. While the day was essentially small and intimate, it took in a lot of the surroundings of London and the people there. While photographing Jonathan getting ready, a taxi full of guests passed and hollered out of the window, the poor driver! When photographing Vic arriving at Islington Town Hall, we took a quick walk and the images seem just quintessentially "British" featuring a red phone box and the beautiful architecture. And of course when we left the ceremony, there was the big red London bus where we were all pressed up against the windows because Bill Oddie was attending the wedding after! The bus dropped us off at one end of the park in Stoke Newington which we all trooped through, the guests drinking prosecco, waving to those enjoying the park and petting dogs along the way.

The reception was in the Londsborough pub which was essentially their local. The dressing was fabulous, bunting and paper lanterns everywhere. We popped out the front of the pub to grab some shots of the bride and bridesmaids and got chatting on to a passerby on her way to a birthday party. At this point, I'm not entirely sure how, suddenly all of the bridal party are hula hooping with the hoops the passer by just happened to be carrying!

It's little things like this that you remember and will always bring a smile to your face and that's something to rememeber this Valentine's Day. The memories that you make always last the longest. Victoria and Jonathan are now expecting a baby, all of the love in the world to their little family!

Weddings are a circus - Jeff and Katie

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Wedding

I've held off on blogging this wedding for a while now but finally I can share with you Jeff and Katie's wedding!

We were waiting for it to be published on the famous Rock and Roll Bride blog, you can read more here.

Even though Katie Abey is based just outside of Nottingham, I was initially introduced to her work through Sugar and Vice who collaborated with her on an amazing collection based on her hand drawn characters.

Since then, we've met up, worked together and chatted lots and I've photographed most of the items she sells through her etsy store. Through this I met her fiance Jeff and I was over the moon when they hired me to photograph their wedding. I knew straight away that this was to be no ordinary wedding!

Jeff and Katie are both bright and colourful, and some of the most creative people I know. The wedding was held at Jeff's family home, which they had licenced for marriage specifically for their wedding. Wingfield Hall is beautiful with amazing grounds and views, but where would they have the reception? In a multi coloured circus tent of course!

Arriving on the big day, I could not help but run around and photograph all of the amazing details of the wedding right down to the very last pinwheel. It was one of the most fun wedding days that I have ever been part of, definitely not a day for black and white images. There is far too much to list so I'll shut up now and let the photographs do the talking!

Venue: Wingfield Hall

Bride's Dress: Chotronette

Bride's Shoes: Irregular choice

Bride's Veil: Rock n Roll Bride x Crown and Glory

Hair: Lucilles Locks

Make Up: Ms Moo Makeup

Bridesmaid Dresses: Collectif

Flowers: Andersons of Nottingham

Caterers: The Old Yew Inn

Rob and Adele - Rock and Roll

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Wedding

I met Adele in a pub in Nottingham on Halloween. My friend Ruby is originally from Liverpool and can hear a scouse accent from a mile away, so the two started talking. Fast forward and I received a message from Adele enquiring about my photography for her wedding with Rob.

On the day of the wedding, Tony and I travelled up to Liverpool and ended up getting changed in the toilets of the public library! It was a beautiful, sunny day and the sun glasses were out in force. I knew this was going to be a fun wedding but I didn't stop smiling and laughing all day.

The ceremony was lovely, themes of black and red with skulls, beautiful 50s swing dresses and leather trousers.

Rob and Adele wanted a relaxed and fun affair and the day was this to a tee. Lots of drinking, dancing and laughing into their new lives together.

Damien and Jo

Categories: Wedding Photography, Wedding

Back to blogging!

Keep yoour eyes peeled for all the catch ups from last year and leading into next but for now, let's begin where last year began with the lovely wedding of Damien and Jo!

Back in January last year finally came the big day for Damien and Jo, It had seemed like such a long time coming after our first meeting!

You might remember their engagement shoot which they used for their invites, and that was when it all started to get very exciting!

When the day came, Jo and Damien had chosen my largest package which meant including an assistant, John, to photograph the groom getting ready. I find that it means I get to to spend more time with the bride and the whole day is covered from pretty much every angle!

Obviously with it being January, there were concerns over the weather. It did rain a little bit but generally the day was dry if a little windy. I got to work with Ms Moo Makeup and Lucille's Locks again which is always a great team! We bounce off each other wonderfully and were all there to make the bride look and feel as great as possible. Jo started to get a little stressed the nearer it got to the ceremony so we even made her bounce on the bed to laugh and calm a little!

The ceremony and indeed the whole day reflected a cool, wintery and calm feeling with light blue colour scheme, fluffy coats, glittery shoes and cute little blue birds everywhere.

The evening was a fun and joyful time with a wonderful singer who had been an amazing master of ceremonies all day for us, there was lots of dancing, a caricaturist cotton candy. Kids and adults alike had the greatest time and what a great way to kick of a year of weddings!!

Jez and Chole

Categories: Wedding Photography, Portrait Photography

Jez and Chloe were referred to me through Lucille's Locks, Lucille and Chloe were childhood friends and Lucille was also one of the bridesmaids!

Unlike most of the weddings I cover, Chloe wanted my coverage of the day to start at the church, so I met Jez and his best man at St Michael's in Breaston, Derbyshire before the guests started to arrive. It was a great opportunity to get some shots of Jez and the wonderful styling of the wedding party. It was a country style theme with beautiful wild flowers with hessian and tweed.

Chloe arrived in a beautiful vintage convertible, driven by her dad who then walked her down the aisle. The ceremony was super sweet and then we popped into the church grounds for group photographs and couple portraits.

Chloe and Jez then drove away in a beautiful camper van to meet us all at Donnington Park Farmhouse Hotel where we shot more photographs of the bridal party and the newly-weds before the wedding guests all sat down for the wedding breakfast.

I adore the styling of this wedding, and the combination of that with the brickwork and fields at Donnington Park Farmhouse Hotel made for some fabulous images.

James and Leigh

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Portrait Photography

Often, when assisting Tim, his wedding clients are more likely to have traditional style weddings but in the case of James and Leigh, their style more closely matched those of my clients.

When I saw their sign saying “Geek and Half-Pint”, I knew it would be a wedding where I was in my element.

As usual, while Tim attended to the bride getting ready, I was tasked with capturing the images of the groom getting ready.

We arrived at Donnington Park Farmhouse Hotel in Derbyshire, a venue I have shot at so many times now they're used to seeing my face, and I headed up to spend some time with James as he had one of the rooms on site.

After a little while with James, a laugh and joke on while moving furniture around to get the best shot, I headed back to meet Tim and photograph the guests arriving.

As a change of pace, Tim decided to take the front of the ceremony while I shot from the back of the hall. Usually, I take point during the ceremony as my camera has a quieter shutter than Tim's although he will still remind me at every opportunity that his Nikon is better than my Canon...

After the ceremony, and dodging the light showers we managed to get the group photos and my favourite part, the confetti throwing.

James, Leigh, Tim and I all went for a wander to get the couple portraits, and as the rapeseed was out in full force, it made a beautiful yellow background for the images.

After dinner, the speeches were hilarious and everyone was smiling and laughing. I captured one of my favourite images of the year, James and Leigh laughing together, it just encapsulated the day perfectly.

Rob and Emma

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

Emma was introduced to me through a friend for her wedding photography, seeing as she and Rob were living in Vancouver at the time, she was grateful for the help!

With the wedding being in Kent, we headed down the day before and spent a nice relaxing night in the hotel as it was going to be a long day!

Up early in the morning, Emma, the bridesmaids and I all headed off to the salon for hair and make-up. It was a relaxed morning and then we all trooped back to the rented cottage for everyone to get dressed. I joined Emma and her mum as they went to get their make-up done separately. With all of the people running around in the cottage I think it was a great idea for them to have some quiet time together.

I managed to get a little peek around the venue before everyone got there and it was beautiful! The sun was shining on a gorgeous May day and the colourful pink and purple flowers that Rob and Emma had chosen to decorate the pagoda set off the gardens wonderfully.

The ceremony was so sweet and there was dozens of locations to photograph the bride and groom after.

Such a light and bright wedding was fabulous, and lots of dancing in the evening.

Rob and Emma now run a hostel in Nicaragua! I'm rather envious, but glad I could be part of their lifelong journey together.

Nottingham Women in Business Awards

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography, Food Photography, Portrait Photography, Product Photography, Pet Photography

This year I was lucky enough to be nominated by my gorgeous friend Sali for Nottingham's Women in Business awards.

I was hugely honoured and although I didn't win, I'm just happy to have been nominated.

The support that I received in response to the news was amazing and, if I'm honest, a little overwhelming! I think I cried about three times that day with happiness because of the kind words and support shown towards myself and my little business.

You can read more about my nomination here

Ollie and Georgie

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

I love being part of friend's weddings, it means I get to see all of the planning, the ideas and then the day where everything finally comes together to create a beautiful day.

When I talked with Georgie and Ollie, I loved the concept, very yorkshire with tea, whippets and flat caps. A lot of the finishing touches were hand made beautifully brought together with a deep green colourscheme.

Knowing them both, I knew it was going to be a fun wedding, and it was. The guests reflected the mood of the day with lots of laughing, dancing and drinking (of course!).

Georgie loved her dress so much that she spent most of the day twirling! So happy that I could be part of Ollie and Georgie's day.

Justin, Zoe and Baby Bump

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

I first met Zoe at a Flashes and Lashes Hen Party as a guest of the hen. A very cute and giggly one I was super happy to meet Zoe again when she joined my Roller Derby team. It was shortly after, that Zoe approached me to photograph her wedding to Justin. She explained that she wad very nervous about being photographed and, as I had shot her before she would love for it to be me as I made her feel calm and comfortable.

As the months went by in the run up to the wedding, much to Justin and Zoe's surprise they announced that they were expecting and that Zoe would be around 6 months pregnant on the wedding day. To me, that was no problem at all so I was happy to join in Zoe and Justin's excitement!

This was the second wedding I've photographed this year at Wollaton Hall so I had a good idea of the set up and that the planners have military precision so I was glad when I got my printed up time table.

On the morning of the wedding, I headed to their house where Zoe, her mum and the bridesmaids were getting ready. Zoe buzzed about making sure that everyone was taken care of making tea, coffee and lunch, I think we managed to get her to sit down for a total of 30 minutes to get her hair and make up done!

I rushed off to Wollaton Hall to catch Justin and the guests arriving and then Zoe. It was a bit of a blustery day and Zoe's veil flew off and I managed to dash and catch it! We headed inside and the ceremony went off without a hitch.

After that, the rest of the day was super relaxed, we breezed through the group shots and then it was time for dinner. The tables had the cutest sweetie centrepieces and Zoe even sorted me my own sweets as I couldn't eat the table ones.

After dinner the drink continued to flow and lots of dancing. I was so grateful to be part of a wonderful day.

Happy Halloween!

Categories: Photography, Fashion, Portrait Photography, Clothing

One thing that we've come to love and expect from Miss Fortune is a great Halloweeen themed range and shoot.

Miss Fortune is my longest running and favourite client. Her designs are inspired by Pin-up, rockabilly and psychobillly and worn by savvy shoppers and celebrities alike! Unlike many other brands of a similar style, all of Miss Fortune's clothing is manufactured in the UK to the highest quality. Laura prides herself on finding new and innovative ways to interpret the scene and make great fitting items. While there are beautiful dresses and items to make you feel like a million dollars at that special event, there are wardrobe staples like jumpers, cardigans and skirts so you can dress up every day.

I loved shooting this seasons designs, we trooped down to the graveyard and uncharacteristically the sun was shining. We always get some odd looks from passers-by and dog walkers!

Sugar and Vice - The Witching Hour

Categories: Photography, Fashion, Portrait Photography

I love working with Sugar and Vice!

I found them, like many, on instagram and was instantly drawn to their amazing and original designs. When they put out a call for a product photographer I obviously jumped at the chance. Over time I have seen the most gorgeous jewellery come through the studio, wanting to keep every piece!

Most recently, I shot not only the product photographs for their newest collection, “The Witching Hour”, but I was also hired to shoot promotional images with a model.

As the lovely Frankii Wilde was visiting at the time I couldn't resist using her in the images. The idea was a modern twist on a witch, taking influences from American Horror Story (mainly the huge hat!).

Such a simple set up, white wall, kick ass model and flash gun.

Can't wait to work on the next collection, I'm sure you'll love it as soon as you see it too! Check out their site and I guarantee you'll want to spend with them.

Marc and Laura - Simple and Stylish

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

I've known Marc just over 12 years and Laura for 8 so imagine my surprise and excitement to find out that they were not only dating but engaged!

Catching up with them both was great, they wanted a small ceremony and reception so it was going to be a very relaxed affair.

The ceremony was lovely and funny then the reception was held at Laura's mum's house.

After such a relaxed day, the evening reception was something else. Loads of drinking and dancing

Such a wonderful day.

Barn and Aimee - Handmade Love

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

At my first meeting with Aimee and Barn, the more they described their perfect wedding and I couldn't help but get excited about photographing it. There was a steampunk theme with elements of Assasins Creed with Alice in Wonderland and a secret woodland feel. Aimee was determined to make most of the elements of the wedding herself or source other parts through talented friends and family.

Following Aimee's updates leading up to the wedding was fantastic, chocolate skulls and buying trees, flavoured tea and boxes of wine.

Barn and Aimee completed the legal part of the marriage on the Friday in a small ceremony and then spent all of Friday afternoon and evening preparing the hall. Aimee's friends made an amazing job of dressing and lighting the hall. It was beautiful.

The morning of the wedding was quite hectic, final preparations of food and outfits but once the groom and groomsmen left for the venue, a nice calm spread over the house. Aimee got ready with the help of her bridesmaids and there was a beautiful moment while her mum helped her into the dress.

It was a beautiful day once we got to the Hoveringham Village Hall in Nottingham, the sun was shining and it was reflected in everyone's happy faces.

The ceremony was beautifully presided over by a friend of Aimee and Barn. I found out later that it was the first wedding ceremony that he had conducted but I couldn't tell at all.

The rest of the day was wonderfully fun, full of laughter. The evening brought cappoera, fire performers, glow sticks and lots of drinking.

I was lucky to be part of such a unique and wonderful handmade day.

Help Eliza get her wings

Categories: Photography, Fashion

A couple of weeks ago, Ms Moo Makeup and I, collectively known as Flashes and Lashes shot with the beautiful burlesque performer, Eliza DeLite

We had worked with Eliza last year on a big group wedding shoot (you can see the pics in my gallery) and had kept in touch on social media. Eliza, being an amazingly skilled and renowned burlesque performer, has been invited to the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, but getting to New Orleans aint cheap! After a bit of discussion, Sali, Eliza and I came upon a plan to shoot some exclusive images be made available for sale as prints to help raise the money to get Eliza's plane tickets.

Eliza loved the idea of a strong American theme to the images. On the day of the shoot, Eliza brought along a few outfits that we could possibly use but in the end a strategically placed vintage American flag worked perfectly!

The next set came together itself. Eliza had been sent some amazing lingerie from one of her sponsors, What Katie Did. The lingerie had a definite Bettie Page and Dita von Teese feel to it so the direction of the images was settled quickly, After a little research this is what we came up with.

Eliza doesn't often get to shoot this style so she had a lot of fun playing crop and whip!

For the last set we used a beautiful latex dress provided by Eliza's other sponsor, Catriona Stewart Clothing. I was so in love with this dress!

Again, taking inspiration from Dita von Teese, the tone and direction of these images came naturally. It seems that artistically, Eliza and I are quite in sync and both understood what we wanted the final images to look like.

If you love these images as much as Eliza, Sali and I do, then we'd love it for you to purchase them as prints. You can purchase these and other little gifts from Eliza'a crowdfunding page.

Please give what you can to this gorgeous, hard-working lady!

Americana International

For the past couple of years I have been attending Americana International, a great event with all the best of American music, style and cars.

As part of this, there is a two day Fashion show covering the best in UKs vintage and reproduction clothing brands. For me, it's a great opportuntity to see some great clothes but also my amazing friends that come to model.

This year, I couldn't make the Saturday due to photographing a wedding but because all of the girls being so amazing I got everything I needed on the Sunday!

I hope that everyone enjoyed it just as much as I did, a huge well done to Aislinn from BooBoo Kitty Couture and here's some pictures!

Trav and El - Spring in Leicester

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

I'd been looking forward to photographing the wedding of El and Trav for a long time. These guys are great together, I even had a little cry when they said their vows!

Great friends and an amazingly fun wedding. Odes to Elvis, Stone Roses and the "Madchester" scene with hints of leopard print, a pink cadillac and a cheese cake!

Enjoy!

Matt and Pernille in Copenhagen

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

Last November I was fortunate enough to spend a little time in Copenhagen so I was thrilled to be invited back to photograph Matt and Pernille's wedding.

Matt, originally from Tamworth, moved to Copehagen to live with Pernille after she had finished her degree in Manchester. They both just wanted quite a quiet wedding and small party after, I was so excited when I found out they were having a Hawaii style party for the reception.

We arrived a few days before the big day for a little time to settle in, scope out the city and help the couple with the preparations. The gave us a taste of the traditional alcoholic drinks they would be serving at the wedding, Fernet Branca and GaJol, although I'm pretty sure they just wanted to see my face after the foul tasting shots!

While sight-seeing around the city, we found The Round Tower, a huge spiral tower and observatory in the centre of Copenhagen. The helixical walkway to the top was beautifully lit from the windows and the stunning views across the rooftops from the top were amazing. I realised that this would be the perfect place to photograph the couple shots after the ceremony!

On the day of the wedding, Pernille and I were up at 6am ready for the make-up artist while everyone else in the apartment dozed on. Coffee was definitely my friend that morning! Once the Groom and others were awake, we sent them to the local bakery for pastries for breakfast. I would be the size of a house if I had such amazing fresh food on my doorstep every morning!

After that we headed over to Copenhagen City Hall, a huge stunning building that we'd seen in our previous travels. The entrance hall was amazing filled with marble but where the actual ceremony took place was tiny! Everyone was smooshed into this small room with no seats where we all had to line the walls to fit in. I was amazed at how quick the ceremony was, the exchange of the rings isn't standard as it is in the UK so Matt and Pernille added it after they had signed the register. There were no blessings, speeches or readings and the whole thing took about fifteen minutes in total.

After a few group shots in city hall, Matt, Pernille and I took a wander to the Round Tower. In between being super cute, they were forever pulling silly faces at each other so it was really hard to stop laughing! Unfortunately, the weather was quite windy that day so we didn't take any shots at the top of the tower so after that we headed back. The newlyweds had organised a lunch with the family so I headed back for a quick lunch and a nap before the evening reception.

The evening went quite quickly, lots of drinking, dancing, laughing and a bar manned by the guests. Pernille got cake in Matt's face and I pulled my first ever pint. There are some crazy Danish marriage traditions, one where they picked Matt up, stole his shoes and cut the toes out of his socks... Don't ask because I don't know!

It was a long day but totally worth it.

Scott and Emma at Goosedale

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

Scott and Emma have been great friends of mine ever since I first met my husband. When they first approached me about photographing their wedding, they hadn't even set a date but they knew that they wanted me to photograph their day. When they did set the date, we did a little shoot for their "Save the Date" cards which I helped design, then I took some of Scott's artwork and designed their wedding invitations too. It was great to be part of the wedding planning with such a wonderfully creative couple. It was such a delightfully fun day, lots of laughter and sunshine. Even though the wedding party weren't "True Scotsmen" I was quite glad of this when they asked for shots up their kilts! Emma's custom personalised Nike trainers were awesome, just shows you don't need to wear heels for your wedding shoes to be special!

Kenton, Danielle and Babe the Wedding Pig

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

When I met Kenton and Danielle for coffee the first time to talk about their wedding photography, we jelled straight away. As they described their little farmyard wedding to me I got so excited, then when they said they would be getting a little pig on a lead too I think I actually squealed a little.

After a little bit of a hiccup regarding the registry office, the big day arrived and ran smoothly with Danielle and Kenton looking amazingly relaxed. Any couple who high-five when they 're pronounced man and wife are definitely together forever!

Sam and Marthas Handmade Wedding

Categories: Wedding Photography, Photography

Back in January, I had the pleasure of photographing Sam and Martha's wedding at the Donnington Park Farmhouse Hotel in Derbyshire.

There were so many beautiful handmade touches to the day, Martha's mum made the bouquets, the groom Sam made the wooden bowties and place settings and the bridesmaid Sophie made the cake. Such a lovely and fun couple!

Welcome to Luna Photography!

Categories: Photography

First of all I'd like to say a huge "Thank You!" to my past, present and future clients, without you all, Luna Photography would be nothing. Thank you for believing my me and my photography.

So, welcome to my new website!

For a while now, I'd felt that the old site didn't reflect my personality or the style of my photography at all. I'd spent so long trying to "fit in" with all of the other mainstream photographers that my fun, alternative side wasn't coming across. I have so many awesome and individual clients that it was clear, I'm not mainstream and neither is my photography. So started the long road to re-invention.

I'd attended a lot of workshops run by Projector at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham, they covered everything from branding and social media to client management and accounting. Here, I realised that I hadn't embraced my talents and niche because I thought that catering to the masses was what I needed in order to succeed. In reality, the niche was exactly what made me more appealing to wedding clients, I understood that they wanted something different from the photography and I was just the person to offer it.

So, meanwhile Monkey Perch Studios was beavering away building the new site, I had to come up with a "look", one that was professional but also reflected my vintage and alternative style. Quite fortuitously, I was contacted by Ali from Gifted Scribble who I'd met at the Projector workshops. Ali is a talented illustrator and graphic designer and she needed commercial product images of t-shirts, prints and greetings cards that she sells. I love working with other local businesses so I suggested a skill swap. I was looking for a new logo and Ali was perfect person for the job!

We had a quick meeting to discuss ideas, themes and styles and then Ali send me over a few designs to choose from. I LOVED them, she had captured the essence of the business perfectly. So, I narrowed it down to my favourite design, refined to a couple of colour pallettes and voila, the new Luna Photography logo was born!

So armed with this, I went a little crazy at the printers ordering new business cards, flyers, gift cards and even stickers!

I even updated my watermark too...

So please, take a look around the new site, maybe you'll see someone you know! Please let me know what you think, I'd love to hear it.

Until next time,

Emma x
